Xperia A2 and Z2 launched in Japan
Confirming earlier leaks, Sony has today unveiled the Xperia A2 for NTT Docomo in Japan, joining Sony's current flagship, the Xperia Z2 on the Japanese network. As rumored, the Xperia A2 is almost identical to the Xperia Z1 Compact, a phone which arrived in Japan last year as the Xperia Z1 f.
The Xperia A2 offers the same specs as the earlier version — 4.3-inch 720p panel, 2.2GHz Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage and a 20.7-megapixel Sony Exmor RS camera. The only real differences between the A2 and Z1 Compact are external — the former comes in orange and lavender, as well as white and dark grey, and the phone's back panel is now matte plastic. So this isn't exactly the Xperia Z2 Compact some were hoping for, more a Z1 Compact in an updated chassis.
The Xperia A2 will go on sale in Japan in mid-June. Docomo's Xperia Z2, also announced today, lands May 21.
