Xiaomi will launch a 5G version of the Mi Mix 3 powered by Snapdragon 855
Xiaomi unveiled the Mi Mix 3 back in October, and at the time the company said that it will roll out a 5G-enabled variant of the device. We now have more details on the device thanks to a recent Xiaomi showcase at the China Mobile Global Partner Conference. The 5G version of the Mi Mix 3 is powered by the Snapdragon 855 and X50 5G modem, and Xiaomi says it will be able to deliver download speeds of up to 2Gbps.
As a refresher, the Mi Mix 3 features a slider design with six cameras in total — three at the back and three up front. The phone also has 10GB of RAM, 256GB of storage, 93.4% screen-to-body ratio, and a 3200mAh battery.
Xiaomi says it will participate in China Mobile's 5G "pre-commercial field test" in the first quarter of 2019, followed by a launch of the 5G Mi Mix 3 in Europe later in the year. The company says it will launch "commercial" phones that work on China Mobile's 5G network from the third quarter of 2019. Xiaomi is looking to leverage its position as a leading IoT services provider to "explore new applications" that take advantage of 5G in the smart home space.
Alongside smart home products, Xiaomi says it is also looking at other use cases, including "8K ultra-high-definition VR streaming, 3D holographic video call, 3D AR street view navigation," and video game streaming.
