We're live in the Google I/O 2014 keynote, where head of Android and Chrome Sundar Pichai just dropped the fact that there are over 1 billion monthly active Android users. Straying a bit from total activation numbers that were shown before, Google has moved to showing active users over a 30-day period. That number has jumped now to over 1 billion, up a dramatic amount from the just over 500 million this time last year.
Pichai went on to say that there are over 20 billion text messages sent by Android users, 93 million selfies taken and 1.5 trillion steps tracked. Those are some pretty crazy numbers to be tied to just one smartphone platform.
