Snapchat adds paid replays and selfie lenses in latest update
Heads up, avid Snapchatters: the ephemeral messaging service is getting some nifty new features in its latest update. Coming along for the ride in the latest version of Snapchat is the ability to buy extra replays, along with some fun "lenses" for all of your selfies.
The biggest bit of news to come out of this update is the addition of extra replays. Snapchat has given users one replay per day for a while now, but you can now purchase extras at a price of 99 cents for 3. Replays can still only be used once per snap, but the extras will allow you to use the replay feature itself more than once a day.
Snapchat has also added a little bit of quirky fun for the selfie aficionados out there with lenses. The next time you're snapping a selfie, you can hold down on your face to bring up a selection of different animated effects. For example, Snapchat may ask you to open your mouth for an animated rainbow to spew forth, or raise your eyebrows to replace your eyes with animated hearts. It's important to note, however, that Snapchat says this feature only works with "newer Android devices." There's no exact list floating around, but given that we couldn't get it to work on a 2014 Moto X, we're assuming they mean very new.
Finally, Snapchat has added trophies to the app, which are essentially achievements. Mum's the word on what all of the trophies entail, but we've seen that at least one is unlocked based on the number of points you've racked up.
