Unable to play online games on your PlayStation 4? You're not alone, as the PlayStation Network is seeing a widespread outage that is affecting online games, game downloads, account management, and other services. Users are unable to launch online games, download new games, or buy games from the PlayStation Store.
The issue affects users on the PS4, PS3, PS Now, PS Vita, and the web. It's not just game launches and account management either, with PlayStation Video, Music, Direct, and Store also facing outages.
Sony shared an update on September 24 at 11:15pm ET that it is aware of the issue with PSN, and that it is investigating a fix:

Update, September 24 (1:00 am ET) — PS4 users are still affected, but services resume for everyone else
In an update, Sony has indicated that PSN services have been restored for PS3, PS Now, PS Vita, and web users. PS4 users, however, are still unable to play online games, log in to their accounts, or access the PlayStation Store.

Update, September 24 (2:00 am ET) — PlayStation Network is back up as Sony restores all services
Sony has confirmed via the PSN service dashboard that services have been restored for all consoles. The PlayStation Network was down for just over four hours, but users can now play online games, access content from the PlayStation Store, and stream using PS Now.
