Naughty Dog's next project could be The Last of Us Part 3
What you need to know
- Naughty Dog has been working on a sequel to The Last of Us for several years.
- The Last of Us Part II is scheduled to release on June 19.
- According to a new interview with creative director Neil Druckmann, Naughty Dog's next game might be The Last of Us Part III.
While The Last of Us Part II isn't quite here yet, that hasn't stopped speculation and discussion of whether or not it'll be the last game in the franchise. Now, we can at least safely say another game in that universe is possible. In an excellent interview by Sam White at GQ Magazine, creative director Neil Druckmann explains that the team's next game might be The Last of Us Part III — or it could be a new IP.
"As you start wrapping things up, creatively there are fewer and fewer responsibilities and my mind can't help but think about the next thing," Druckmann says. "So, yeah, the next thing could be a Part III, the next thing could be some new IP."
Regardless of what it ends up being, I wouldn't expect to hear anything anytime soon. The Last of Us was a swan song of sorts for the PlayStation 3 in 2013, while The Last of Us Part II is helping close out the PlayStation 4 generation. So who knows? Maybe The Last of Us Part III will be one of the last games to grace the PlayStation 5.

It can't be for nothing
The wait is almost over. Ellie's harrowing journey looks to take her on the bloody path of revenge, but at what cost? With The Last of Us Part II, Naughty Dog is bringing its largest game ever developed.
