The Inateck MercuryBox is compact enough to easily fit in your backpack or pocket, measuring 6.5-inches in length and nearly 2.5-inches in height. Most of its construction is made of an anodized aluminum that features a unique perforated design on the front. Inside are two 5W drivers that provide impressive full-range sound for all your mobile music, regardless of genre.
On the top are your music controls, including the power button, play/pause, Bluetooth/Answer, and volume up/down. This surface, along with both sides are made of a tough TPU-like material. On the right is a port plug that grants access to the 3.5mm auxiliary port and microUSB charging port. Inateck has kindly bundled a 4ft. braided audio cable as well as a USB charging cable of the same size. There are even a couple Velcro straps thrown in for good measure. The left side is where you can connect the included hand strap, if you plan to tote the speaker that way. On the bottom are two rubber feet that do a great job of keeping the speaker in one place, even it's a wet surface.
Fully charged, the Inateck MercuryBox can provide anywhere from 9-15 hours of non-stop music with its 1800mAh lithium-ion battery. The sound quality is exceptional for its size, too. With an IPX5 rating, it's probably not ideal for long-term dunks in the water, but I would periodically dip it in the pool, plus a series of splashes as it sat on the pool deck. It still pushes tunes perfectly, so it's waterproof enough for my liking. Pairing is engaged by holding the middle Bluetooth button and searching for the Inateck MercuryBox on your devices list. Its wireless range reaches around 30-33ft, which is pretty standard with most Bluetooth speakers we get our hands on.
Music isn't the only thing it's capable of, though. There's a microphone on the top that allows you to manage hand-free calls over the speaker that's extremely handy when you're neck deep and soaked. Also included is a protective sleeve that you can slip the MercuryBox into when it's not in use. It's tough enough to protect the speaker inside if you were to drop it, and even has a soft interior to keep it completely scratch-free.
Our take
I find myself using the Inateck MercuryBox more and more as summer gets increasingly brutal here in Florida. It doesn't matter if I'm in the shower, pool, or out on the boat — this handy speaker is my new jammin' companion. If you're interested in trying one out, you can snag one straight from Amazon for $54.99.
