While Philips Hue smart lighting has been around for a while, it has almost always required the use of a Hue Hub to unite all the lights together and then connect them to your Wi-Fi network. So usually when we see Philips Hue deals, the price drops are on the starter kits that include a hub. For example, we shared this 3-bulb multi-color kit recently when it dropped to $100 from $120. The deal above with the Echo Dot, however, includes two bulbs that don't need a hub. It's part of a new series from Philips Hue that includes both Bluetooth and Zigbee built in. You can still use a hub if you have one, and you'll eventually want one if you go crazy with the smart lighting because Bluetooth can only support up to 10 bulbs through the free app, but you don't need it if you don't want it.
