Google Play opens voting for Fan Favorite App, Game, and Movie of 2018
Google Play has given out "Best of" awards at the end of the year for the most-streamed songs, the most-purchased movies, and the best apps from a variety of categories. This year, however, Google is adding new categories to the Best App, Best Game, and Best Movie categories: Fan Favorite.
Voting is now open on the Google Play Store, and will remain open for the next two weeks. Results of the voting will be announced a week after the voting closes on December 3.
Fan Favorite App of 2018 looks to have some stiff competition among the 20 nominees this year. The Reddit official app is in the running, along with digital movie manager Movies Anywhere, YouTube TV, and podcast player Castbox, which you may remember from Google Play's Best of 2017 roundup. There are some oddities in here, as well, like Pandora Music and dating app Tinder.
Fan Favorite Game of 2018 is chock full of big-name titles, too. I have a sneaking suspicion it's going to come down to Pokemon GO and PUBG MOBILE, but you can't rule out Final Fantasy XV, Madden NFL, or Clash Royale.
And then there's Fan Favorite Movie of 2018, and — oooooooh, boy, that's a whole lot of fun movies to choose from. It's nice to see some smaller films like Sorry to Bother You and Mr. Rogers documentary Won't You Be My Neighbor in here, and with a 20-movie ballot with nearly every major genre and ratings category represented, there's really no telling which of the five superhero movies here is coming out on top. My money's on Black Panther.
