Google launches Camera Go for Android Go powered phones
What you need to know
- Google has launched Camera Go, a new camera experience for phones powered by Android Go.
- It brings staples like Portrait Mode to the low-end.
- Android Go now has over 100 million active users.
Google is bringing a new camera experience to Android Go soon. While Android Go phones are typically not spec monsters, Google is used to doing a lot with a little as Android Go and Chromebook users would know.
Speaking about the Camera Go app, Google says:
In other words, it's essentially a pared-down version of what Google thinks the ideal camera app should be and comes with smart features that will help you keep your storage in check so you don't get too carried away while clicking away.
Aside from that, Android Go has just reached a few milestones. Google says that there are now more than 100 million active Android (Go edition) devices being used worldwide.
That number has been helped by Google working with local carriers to help bring Go powered phones to people who need them. In Kenya, Google partnered with Safaricom to bring 900,000 Android Go phones to users, 53 percent of which were women. Aside from enabling connectivity in general, this also helps to bridge the gender gap in internet access in Africa, even — if a little.
As for when we'll see Camera Go, it will debut on Android Go powered phones like the Nokia 1.3 soon.
