Round Robin: WMExpert’s Dieter Bohn Video Review of the T-Mobile G1
For Week 4 of the Smartphone Round Robin, the T-Mobile G1 is in the hands of our good friend Dieter Bohn! Dieter just finished up his Video Review and first impressions of the T-Mobile G1 but instead of choosing the normal route of detailing the hardware and software, he elects to do something entirely different–he defends the G1’s hardware.
Let’s face it. The G1 has caught a lot of flack for its supposed “ugly” and “bland” design. Deserved or not, even we at Android Central admit its not the prettiest in the bunch. So for Dieter to go out and defend the hardware? That’s bold.
You should check out his Video Review to see the great points he raises on the design and it just might make you re-evaluate the way you saw the T-Mobile G1. One more thing. He even defends the chin.
Go check out Dieter’s Video Defense of the T-Mobile G1’s hardware!

Round Robin: TreoCentral Jennifer’s Video Review of the T-Mobile G1
So you guys already know that I have the Blackberry Bold for the Smartphone Round Robin, but it begs the question, where oh where is the T-Mobile G1 ?! In the caring hands of Jennifer over at TreoCentral of course! She left her Treo Pro behind and is using the T-Mobile G1 as her daily driver!
From her first impressions on the T-Mobile G1 she seems nonplussed about the hardware of the G1 and does not understand the ‘chin’ whatsoever! Don’t worry Jennifer, we cover Android daily and we still don’t understand the ‘chin’. Oddly, she has run into some lag issues with the G1 and we’ve experienced nothing but snappiness the entire time!
Go check out her Video Review of the T-Mobile G1 and tell her what you think!

Round Robin: Blackberry Bold Video
We’re now in Week 3 of the Smartphone Round Robin and we have the Blackberry Bold in the Android Central headquarters! The Blackberry Bold is a much celebrated device and deservedly so, the Bold is a magnificent piece of hardware–everything is simply top notch. From the gorgeous screen to the superb build quality, the folks at RIM definitely put a lot of thought into this puppy–everything is so well executed and in concert.
Like any Blackberry (well almost any Blackberry, looking at you Storm), you can expect a few features to be as good as it gets on the Bold–namely the keyboard and E-mail. Both are definitely effective, though we still personally like our G1’s Gmail App better than anything on Blackberry.
There are a few quirks and kinks in the Blackberry OS that, though upgraded from previous generations, still don’t seem like the ‘modern’ way to go. We’ll get more into that concept as the week goes along, so in the meantime, check out Android Central’s Video Review of the Blackberry Bold!

Round Robin: Rene’s Video Review of the T-Mobile G1
So let me fill you in with how the Smartphone Round Robin works: Every editor of the SPE network sites trade in their phones for a spin with another smartphone. So not only will you be able to see my Androidified opinion about the iPhone 3G, AT&T Fuze, Blackberry Bold, and Palm Treo Pro — you’ll be able to see what everyone else thinks about our beloved G1 and the exciting Android OS!
Since Android is the newest kid on the block and essentially non-existent outside the US and UK, you’ll definitely see some mix ups and false starts from the get go. Our good friend Rene takes the first crack at the T-Mobile G1 and comes away…confused. To give you a preview, the plethora of input options is too much for him to handle!
Go on over to The iPhone Blog to check out Rene’s thoughts and see his video on Android and the T-Mobile G1. I agree with a lot of what he’s saying but believe after a few more days he’ll see that though the Android way is different, it is also a great way to go. Head on over to give him a piece of your mind!
Ed. note: Rene’s video is hilarious. Make sure you’re not eating lunch or reading in a meeting because food pieces will fly and hooting & hollering will surely occur. Just warning ya!

Video of Flash Running on Android, T-Mobile G1
Well, looky here. We had just reported that Flash was coming to Android and the T-Mobile G1 a bit earlier today. Obviously, hardened smartphone (read: iPhone) users would say those reports are likely bonk since it’s been a lifetime and a half since the rumors and reports of Flash coming to the iPhone first began and still. no. Flash.
Luckily, we have video! Courtesy of I4U.com (via Talk Android), we have a youtube video showing Flash running on Android. Have a peek at it would ya and tell us what you think!

Unlocked T-Mobile G1? Uh, Yeah, We Did That.
If you were around a computer connected to the Internet yesterday you may have noticed a flurry of news items and posts detailing the unlock of the T-Mobile G1. Hey, we’re all for freedom and openness here at Android Central and unlocking your G1 is an extension of that ideal. We support you unlockers.
But what’s funny to us is: We. Already. Unlocked. The. G1. A week ago. And we were nice enough to show you how with a video! In fact, two of our very own are running unlocked G1s as we speak. Ask Dieter and Brian how they feel about it. Check out our video on how to unlock the G1!
More T-Mobile G1 Love, A Video Look
Phandroid comes through again with a great video detailing their opinion on the T-Mobile G1. Unlike many other reviews, this first look comes in video form which allows you to more clearly see the usage of the G1. Phandroid also comes with a differing opinion on the G1’s design - they actually like it a lot.
The much maligned chin is actually praised because it offers dedicated keys. Keep on the lookout for Android Central’s own impressions, review, and video take of the T-Mobile G1.
Google Shows Off Android in a Video Presentation in London
At Google’s Developer Day over in London, Google seemed to show off a very complete-looking version of Android and a device that looks eerily similar to the HTC Dream. WIth the scheduled T-Mobile event to jump off September 23rd, I think it’s safe to say that what we see in this video is pretty much what we’ll see at the vent.
The actual device details were ‘taped up’ according to the video so we can’t know for sure but Android is looking better and better by the day. Click the Read Link for the full video to see some basic Android UI and what 2 hours of development can create.
0.9 Android SDK Released, Looks A LOT Better
We had previously reported on the much maligned, original Android SDK which could only be seen as a step in the right direction. Luckily, after months of silence from Google, the Android SDK is now in 0.9 and includes a complete overhaul of the user interface.
From the looks of it, Android is looking closer and closer to becoming a reality and a lot of the features look fun to use, if not useful. I’m eager to get my hands on an actual Android device but for now the screenshots, video, and SDK will have to do. Gizmodo has a great video introduction to the 0.9 Android SDK, feel free to check it out!
