Get G1 Root Access Back with Leaked RC29 Firmware

A lot of us (me included) mindlessly upgraded to the RC30 firmware on our T-Mobile G1 and immediately realized that we could no longer have root access. Fear not, chavonbravo, an astute member of the XDA-developers forum got their hands on the RC29 firmware and uploaded it for all to use.

Taking a look at the directions, it doesn’t look especially tough to flash back. If you want to gain root access again, check out the step-by-step instructions from the XDA after the break!

Video of Flash Running on Android, T-Mobile G1

Well, looky here. We had just reported that Flash was coming to Android and the T-Mobile G1 a bit earlier today. Obviously, hardened smartphone (read: iPhone) users would say those reports are likely bonk since it’s been a lifetime and a half since the rumors and reports of Flash coming to the iPhone first began and still. no. Flash.

Luckily, we have video! Courtesy of I4U.com (via Talk Android), we have a youtube video showing Flash running on Android. Have a peek at it would ya and tell us what you think!

Andy Rubin Demos Flash on G1, Coming Soon?

Yesterday at an Adobe MAX Event, Andy Rubin was on hand doing a demonstration — a demonstration about flash on Android. During his keynote, he showed off Flash on the G1, which was a combined team effort from Google and Adobe. This is great news considering the Flash Saga that the iPhone faced (and still faces) and hopefully we can get Flash on Android to experience the “full web”.

To quote Andy Rubin:

“We are excited to be working alongside Adobe to bring Flash technology to Android, Adobe Flash is crucial to a rich Internet and content experience on mobile devices and we are thrilled that Google will be one of the first companies along with the Open Handset Alliance to bring Flash technology to the smartphone market.”
We at Android Central are happy to see that Android is fulfilling its promise and potential while hitting very few roadblocks and/or obstacles. The Android platform will continue to succeed especially if Apple and the iPhone continue to stick to their unwavering ways.

Firefox Mobile Isn’t Coming to Android Because of Android Limitations

We had already told you guys that Firefox Mobile aka Fennec wasn’t coming to Android but more details are coming out as to who’s to blame. Fennec won’t play nice with Android Market because apps in Android Market need to programmed with a custom form of Java to run on Android. Mozilla and the Fennec peeps won’t have that and won’t be releasing any form of Firefox until Google amends the limitation of Android Apps.

Microsoft Silverlight Is Coming To Android ?

Microsoft Silverlight, the web plug-in from the folks at Redmond, has made no secret that they’ve been trying to get into the iPhone. But with Apple controlling all the gates into their one slab device, it’s quite obvious that it’ll be a long time before we see Silverlight on the iPhone. In fact, the best they’ve done is simply just spoken to Apple about Silverlight.

So what does a developer do when spurned by one company? Even one as big as Microsoft? Simple, move on to the next company. Luckily, that company is Android. Android with its open-source, all apps are a go, anti-Apple approach will be monitored closely by the folks at Silverlight and to quote,

“[Android] is something we’re going to continue to look at. Certainly as it’s gotten deployed and if sales are good we’ll definitely keep our eyes out and look at that in the future.”
