Verizon: Don’t Buy The G1

This happens all the time in the mobile world. When a carrier releases a hotly anticipated phone, all the other carriers send out internal E-mails detailing why that phone is the worst phone in the world. This time it’s Verizon releasing notes about the G1. The reasons listed have all been known for a while now so it’s not that big of a deal in the G1’s case. However, it’s always fun to see multimillion dollar companies act like little children squabbling over the most insignificant of details.

For example, how dare the G1 limit music to over-the-air downloads over Wi-Fi only! Shame on them!

EA Coming to Android

For all you lovers of Monopoly, Tetris and Bejeweled, there is good news. As reported by Umair Khalid over at thesmartpda.com, these classic games from EA are on their way for Android and a T-Mobile G1 near you (hopefully you have one in your pocket!).

Adam Sussman, vice president of EA Mobile, said, “Android is another exciting new platform to offer customers great games with enhancements like touch and tilt capabilities.” These popular titles appear to only be the first wave. EA Mobile will release more titles in the coming months and that’s great news for all of us Android adopters. What titles would you like to see on your G1?

Aardvark Exchange client for Android Confirmed

After a little more digging, we have a working link to sign up for the Aardvark Exchange client beta for Android. Just go here, enter your email address, then confirm for opting in. Our confidence level just went up several notches.

Thanks again goes to Stefan Frank and forum member Sherri for confirming this story. There is a glaring irony that I have an unlocked G1 but seldom use Google for my email, calendar or contacts management. Being able to hook up and sync via Exchange would be a huge plus for me. How many of you are going to sign up for the beta? Who amongst you will benefit from an Exchange client, and why? Share your thoughts!

Aardvark bringing Exchange to Android?

UPDATE: Time for a bit of rumor-mongering Exchange anticipation! Stefan Frank over at androidauthority.com claims a source (unidentified) notified them that the company Aardvark is bringing a Microsoft Exchange client to the Android platform. Allegedly, you can visit the company’s web site and sign up to participate in a beta program once the client is available for testing.

If this is credible, Aardvark is promising real-time wireless synchronization of email, calendar, and contacts. Also, they are reporting that messaging will be included in the Android OS and the T-Mobile G1. The software is reported to publicly launch in Q1 of 2009 with limited beta starting right away, but you might have noticed my choice of words like “allegedly” and “credible.” Even though a lot of folks are picking this up (yours truly included), I’m taking this with a grain of salt - the link allowing participation in the beta is broken, thus not inspiring me with tremendous confidence. We here at Android Central will let you know if there is truth to this rumor. We hope so! What do YOU think?

UPDATE: here is a working link for the beta signup!

T-Mobile G1 Shutting Off Data For Those Who Pre-Ordered

It’s now been a week since most of the G1 pre-orders were delivered and many users are running into the problem of having no data. The culprit? Well, T-Mobile. The pre-ordered G1s came with a free week of T-Mobile data services and well, that week is now over. Therefore, T-Mobile blindly shut off data to the G1 and forgot to activate your paid data plan.

It’s annoying to fix because you either have to call into T-Mobile or access your account online. Luckily, T-Mobile has award winning customer service so the process is a little less annoying. Did anyone run into this problem?

The UK ‘queues’ up for the T-Mobile G1

Today is the the launch of the T-Mobile G1 for our friends across the pond, the G1 will be available in T-Mobile stores throughout the United Kingdom. Looking at the pictures (posted on Telegraph.co.uk), it looks like a line, er ‘queue’, has built up in anticipation. Unlike our clear path to the G1, it looks like our UK brethren have to brave the rain as well (when does it not rain over there?) luckily T-Mobile offered some snazzy umbrellas for customers waiting in line.

We’ve also received word that some UK customers who signed up for news regarding the T-Mobile G1 got a “first dibs” of sorts on the G1. According to our tipster, T-Mobile sent out an e-mail that offered instructions on how to order a G1 before launch day. We’re unsure of the shipping process, but hey if you can stay in and avoid the rain, why not?

Enjoy the G1 folks!

Thanks Duncan for the tip!

Motorola Android Device To Be Released Holiday 2009, BOOO!

Does Motorola offer any good news anymore? After confessing our love to Motorola amidst their job cuts and dreaming about the pairing of the Android OS with Motorola Design while they bleed money, we regret to inform you that the much anticipated Motorola Android Device won’t be released until the 2009 Holiday Season. Go ahead and buy the G1 now folks because it’s going to be a loong time before Motorola pushes out an Android phone.

We had reported that second quarter 2009 was likely but Motorola CEO Sanjay Jha debunked those reports in his Q3 Earnings call. The next Holiday Season is more than a year away and we at Android Central can’t hide our disappointment. Sigh. See you next year Moto.

What do you guys think?
